Ulster Institute of eHealth

The Ulster Institute of eHealth is a collaborative development between the University of Ulster and the Ulster Community and Hospitals Trust.

eHealth covers a wide range of uses to which information technologies are put in the healthcare setting. eHealth encompasses all those information technology tools and applications that were previously bundled together under labels: health computing, health informatics, health telematics and telemedicine.

The Ulster Institute of eHealth is particularly interested in clinical applications which support the clinician in diagnosis and treatment and ultimately support citizens in their own environment. This involves:

  • provision of health information to healthcare professional and patients;
  • use of the Internet for collection of health related information, providing a ‘virtual clinic’;
  • analysis of health information for better diagnosis and management;
  • use of Information and Communication Technology, for telecare.

“Ulster Institute of eHealth through the expertise of its partners will use the latest advances in health and social care knowledge and ICT infrastructure to deliver international quality research, facilitate more knowledgeable health and social care professions, enable knowledge transfer and promote advances in local citizen care”

The institute relies on collaboration between the healthcare, community and academic sectors.
