The Ulster Hospital Diabetes Cardiovascular Clinic
The Diabetes Cardiovascular clinic is a special clinic for those with diabetes who need additional help controlling their blood pressure or cholesterol levels. The clinic is run by Michelle Lemon who is a Diabetes Specialist Nurse and by Rosemary Donnelly who is a Pharmacist.
On arrival make yourself known to Michelle or Rosemary. Your weight and blood pressure will then be measured and you will sometimes have a blood sample taken. Please also bring a list of all the medication that you are currently taking along with any records of your blood sugar or blood pressure levels. This is very important.
The Consultation
You will be seen by either Rosemary Donnelly or Michelle Lemon (sometimes by both). There will be plenty of time for your consultation.
Having diabetes means that you are at increased risk of developing heart and kidney problems. These complications of diabetes are much more likely if your blood pressure is too high or if you cholesterol levels are elevated. At the Diabetes Cardiovascular Clinic you will be taught ways in which you can reduce your risk of developing heart and kidney problems. You will be given detailed information about your treatments and additional treatment may also be recommended. The aim of the clinic is to help you maintain a healthy heart.
When your consultation is finished, Michelle or Rosemary will let you know if you need another appointment at the Diabetes Cardiovascular Clinic. If you need another appointment this will be arranged for you.
