New treatment for type 2 diabetes on its way!

Strange though it might seem but new treatments for diabetes can appear from the oddest places. A new drug known as exenatide is now available in the USA and seems to work well in reducing blood sugars in those with type 2 diabetes. It was developed from a substance found in the saliva of a special type of lizard. Exenatide is injected just like insulin and is just as effective but seems to have the advantage of helping folks lose weight. Insulin is more likely to cause weight gain. Watch this space – for exenatide is likely to become available in the UK at some stage soon.
