Recall of Onetouch ® Ultra ® 2 blood glucose meter

The OneTouch ® Ultra ® 2 blood glucose meter has been recalled by LifeScan because some users have not noticed the decimal point between the numbers in their blood glucose reading. This means the result can be misread particularly when the blood glucose readings are very low (e.g 2.2 mmol/l is misread as 22 mmol/l). Safety is crucial so LifeScan are recalling all OneTouch ® Ultra ® 2 meters and replacing them with an alternative meter free of charge. This issue is only with the OneTouch ® Ultra ® 2 meter – all other LifeScan meters are fine. If you are using a OneTouch ® Ultra ® 2 meter then call LifeScan on 0800 0288039 or visit www.lifescan.co.uk

Get Political – Unite for Diabetes!

The ‘Unite for Diabetes’ campaign was officially launched on the 10th June by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) in Washington. The campaign aims to highlight the alarming rise of diabetes worldwide and to encourage government support for a United Nations Resolution on diabetes.

IDF is leading the global diabetes community in a concerted effort to secure the Resolution on or around World Diabetes Day next year ( 14th November 2007). New data from the International Diabetes Federation show that more than 230 million people, almost 6% of the world’s adult population, now live with diabetes. Previous figures underestimated the diabetes threat and the total is expected to rise dramatically. For more information go to www.unitefordiabetes.org.
