Measure up- are you at the risk of Diabetes? |
Look out for Diabetes UK’s biggest campaign ever. ‘Measure Up’ is designed to raise awareness of type 2 diabetes. The campaign aims to encourage the 750,000 or so people in the UK with undiagnosed type 2 diabetes to get tested and so go on to receive the care that they need. Look out for the campaign posters and advertisements. Diabetes UK has also developed an on-line test to work out if people are at risk of diabetes. The test asks a number of simple questions to work out how much at risk an individual person is. If the risk is high then testing for diabetes is encouraged. Log on to see for yourself at www.diabetes.org.uk/measureup.

Check your risk of diabetes |
A recent report from the Institute of Public Health in Ireland has estimated that over 5% of the Northern Irish population has diabetes (diagnosed or undiagnosed). From figures obtained from GP surgeries in Northern Ireland we know that about 3% of our population has diabetes - so that means there are a lot of folks out there with undiagnosed diabetes. So spread the word. Get your family and friends to check their risk of diabetes – try using the American Diabetes Association risk estimator at www.diabetes.org/risk-test.jsp.
