The Ulster Hospital Young Adult Diabetes Clinic
This clinic is a special clinic for adolescents and young adults with diabetes. It takes place on the first Tuesday afternoon of every month in the Outpatient Department (Reception 2). The Outpatient Department is located on your right immediately on entering the hospital via the main entrance. The clinic runs from 2.00 pm to 4.30 pm.
On arrival - book in at the reception desk (reception desk 2). Your weight will then be measured and you will have a blood sample taken before seeing the doctor or diabetes nurse. You will also be asked for a sample of urine, which you should bring with you.
Please also bring a list of all the medication that you are currently taking along with any records of your blood sugar or blood pressure levels.
The Consultation
You will be seen by one of the doctors or diabetes specialist nurses and any of the other staff that you want to see or are advised to see. You may occasionally be asked to have another blood test before you go home.
Although we allocate 15 minutes for your consultation - if your doctor or specialist nurse needs to spend more time with you then he or she will do so. Mostly the clinics run well but sometimes there can be delays. We understand entirely that this can be frustrating and inconvenient. You can help reduce delays by arriving on time and by bringing a morning urine sample with you. We would also welcome any suggestions that you might have on how we can improve the clinic! (link to feedback page).
When your consultation is finished remember to book your next appointment. Remember also to pick up a urine sample container to use for your next (return) visit.
If your appointment does not suit please call the appointments office and they will arrange a more suitable date.
